Round Rock High School is hosting their first Central Texas Teen Comic Con and Kids Con this Saturday, December 2. Many authors will be speaking including Nathan Hale who writes the Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales series including One Dead Spy. Canyon Creek is thrilled to welcome Texas Bluebonnet Award nominated author Chris Barton today! Our 4th grade students will get to participate in a writing workshop this afternoon while our 3rd and 5th graders will have an author presentation this morning.
We are so excited that Bridget Heos will be visiting our Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students on Thursday, October 26! Mrs. Heos is the author of the incredibly popular Armadillo Reader's Choice Award winning book, Mustache Baby. In addition to the sequel, Mustache Baby Meets his Match, Mrs. Heos has written many other fiction and nonfiction books. Autographed book forms are going home today (Friday, Oct 6). If you would like to purchase a book for Mrs. Heos to autograph during her visit, please return the form by next Friday, October 13. We have been reading Mustache Baby with some classes in the library and examples of the books are on display. Round Rock ISD libraries initiated the Beach Blanket Bingo Reading Challenge this summer to encourage students to read. A Bingo "card" was sent home with report cards. Students can complete different patterns on the Bingo card and turn them in the first week of school for prizes! The Level 4 Blackout prize will be a free book for students who return their cards on the first day of school, and a drawing for a free book for students who turn their cards in any other time that week while supplies last. For Book Fair shopping ONLINE, click HERE Canyon Creek's very first Bluebonnet team competed in a Bluebonnet book quiz game against every elementary school in our district on Tuesday, April 7. All four participants and one alternte read all 20 books on the Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee list and participated in team practices at CCE. Although we didn't win, Mira, Daniel, Arjun, and Henry did an outstanding job as our school's first ever team!
